When you were a kid, you probably hated getting water up your nose.
So why are more people doing it as adults voluntarily?
Some say they`ve discovered that a good rinsing can do a lot of good for the sinuses.
While most people are whipping up Thanksgiving recipes right now, Connie Bye has a recipe for something a little different.
A quarter teaspoon of salt, a quarter teaspoon of baking soda. Some warm water and a stir, it all comes together to form a solution that Bye says has solved her sinus infection problems.
"No more sinus infections, no more colds, no more coughs, no more allergies, all gone," she says.
This because Bye does far more than just stare at the solution. She flushes it through her nasal cavity, where it has the chance to flow through her sinuses and clean them out.
"I`ve been surprised," says Dr. Laura Archuleta. "There are a lot of people out there that are starting to do this."
Dr. Archuleta says if a person can get past the somewhat uneasy idea of flushing liquid through their nose, it can be beneficial.
"Some of the studies actually have shown that is will shorten the duration and the severity of a sinus infection or it can be used for prevention in people with chronic allergies to prevent that allergies from turning into something more uncomfortable," she says.
Because sinus infections are caused by the buildup of mucus, and rinsing prevents the buildup.
"Things smell good, things feel good," Bye says.
Bye swears by nasal rinsing, she says she hasn`t had to use antibiotics for sinus problems since she started doing her routine. One best described as a simple solution to flushing your sinus problems away.
While Bye made her own solution for rinsing her sinus cavities, you can buy a solution over the counter as well.
