A woman has been sentenced to a month in jail for stealing more than $1,000 from a Grand Forks man in her care.
Julie Amundson apologized in court Wednesday and told Judge Sonja Clapp she had no explanation for what she did.
Amundson`s attorney, Darla Schuman, said her client had bills to pay and was struggling with mental health issues at the time of the theft, between February and June.
Reading a letter written on behalf of the 48-year-old victim, prosecutor Chris Griffin said Amundson not only took his money but also his confidence, dignity and self-worth.
A police report said Amundson confessed to using $1,017 from the man`s checking account to pay bills and buy a 20-inch flat-screen TV. She pleaded guilty to exploiting a vulnerable adult, a Class C felony. |
