Democrats have control in Congress and those not happy with the direction they`re taking our country gathered Wednesday night in Minot. More than 500 people showed up at the Armory for a TEA party. The letters t-e-a are meant to spell out Taxed Enough Already. Participants listened to speakers like Minot Representative Dan Ruby and former Governor Ed Schaefer speak about problems they see in Washington. Major issues discussed were healthcare and government spending. They believe less government is a better option.
"I think there are a lot of people declaring conservatives were dead after the last election. We just want people to know that they have a voice. This is our way of showing we are here in the United States and in North Dakota," says Rob Port, of sayanythingblog.com
The Executive Director of North Dakota`s Democratic Party, Joe Aronson sent KMOT a statement responding to the tea party in Minot Wednesday. He told us in part... "Once again the hypocrisy of this Republican group is amazing. They`ll accept their government health care and a paycheck when in office, but oppose any actions to help out North Dakotans. Talk about saying one thing and doing another."
Aronson went on to blame Former Governor Schafer for headlining Minot`s TEA party saying Schafer is a hypocrite because he is supporting a billion dollar federal flood protection project in Fargo.
