Veteran Shares WWII Memories | Video
11/11/2009
"I`m 87 years old," says Murray Torgeson, WW2 Veteran. "I was watching the news and there was something on the war and I decided to go to the war."

At 21 years old, Murray Torgeson enlisted into the United States Army.

He was a soldier in the 517th Parachute Combat Team. After a year, he was deployed to France.

"We went to the southern France invasion then the Belgium Bulge," says Torgeson.

It was in the battle of the bulge where Torgeson was wounded.

"It wasn`t serious but enough to get a Purple Heart," says Torgeson.

It wasn`t long after that, when the atomic bombs were dropped.

"We were in Paris the night we heard the war was over," says Torgeson

Torgeson arrived back to the United States with some wonderful memories of the scenic country, but there were also many memories he wishes he didn`t have.

"So many of my best friends didn`t come back," says Torgeson with tears in his eyes.

Even though some of Torgeson`s friends aren`t here to celebrate Veterans Day with him, he has made some new ones who fought in the same battle.
