Myths About the Oil Industry
11/9/2009
Oilman Harold Hamm is the chairman and chief executive officer of Continental Resources Incorporated.

His company was one of the first to tap the Bakken formation in North Dakota`s oil patch 20 years ago.

Hamm unveiled some myths about the industry in his speech this morning.

He says a major myth floating around right now is that the country imports a lot more oil than it actually does.

He also says those trying to wean the country off of oil says we`re running out of it.

"They use some of those myths to their advantage," says Hamm. "They try to downplay oil and how bad this situation is. How long have we been hearing that? How many hundreds of years have we been hearing we`ll run out of oil? And that just isn`t true."

Hamm believes North Dakota`s oil reserves are double the federal government`s estimates.
