Devils Lake Superintendent Steve Swiontek says his board will introduce a resolution at the state School Boards Association meeting this weekend to keep a state Commission on Education Improvement.
Swiontek says current state law would disband the commission at the end of next year. He says it has helped improve education in North Dakota and board members think the commission should continue "for as long as we have public education."
Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple chairs the commission, which was created after Devils Lake and other districts sued to change the state school funding formula. The commission has worked on major issues ranging from funding to graduation requirements.
Dalrymple says one focus of the group now is on the transition from high school to college. He says as long as the group can be productive, it should continue. |
