Man Who Bought Bald Eagle Sentenced
10/27/2009
A man who bought a bald eagle that was shot on the Spirit Lake Indian Reservation has been given two years probation.

Authorities said Kim Robertson, 52, pleaded guilty Monday to purchasing the bird from his brother, James. The James Robertson Sr., 44, of Fort Totten, was sentenced to 10 months of work release after pleading guilty to shooting the bird and selling it.

Kim Robertson is a member of the Spirit Lake tribe but lives near New Town, on the Fort Berthold Reservation.

Robertson`s attorney, Joel Larson, said his client bought the bird and planned to use the feathers in a ceremonial war bonnet for a family member.

Kim Robertson also must complete 60 hours of community service with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
