We told you last week about Burleigh County Commissioners turning down $9 million in federal stimulus money aimed at areas with significant economic problems, such as unemployment and foreclosures. At the time, commissioners said accepting the federal funds would send a mixed signal about the economic climate in Bismarck and Burleigh County. The final vote was 3 to 2 to reject the money.
But it appears other counties in North Dakota are willing to accepting that money to help pay for certain economic development projects. Grand Forks County commissioners have declared the county a "recovery zone," opening the door to more than $30 million. Cass County has been given the largest share at $73 million. North Dakota has been allocated $225 million for the program statewide.
