Fatal Fire in Bismarck

| A Bismarck man is dead after an early morning fire. Crews were called to the 2500 block of East Broadway just after 12-30 this morning. Police say 66-year old Herman Bauer was sleeping in his home when the fire broke out. His body was discovered by firefighters on a couch. "We got up and all the sudden we seen smoke and we seen his hat laying there on the ground and we knew right away he was more than likely in there. So it was pretty sad," says Daniel Bauer, a neighbor. Firefighters say the fire appears to have been accidental. They continue to investigate a cause. Police say they had been called to a previous fire at the same home earlier this month where they discovered Bauer was burning paper. Neighbors say he was doing it to heat his home after his utilities had been cut off from lack of payment. But police say Bauer told them he was burning things to get rid of trash. |
