The small northwestern North Dakota town of Alexander is getting a new water well after two others failed.
The head of the city`s water department, Jim Fixen, said the community of about 230 people needs a new well to provide enough water for fire protection, and needs a reservoir to hold a three-day supply of water. It`s getting a grant and money from McKenzie County to do the work.
An earlier well had problems traced to minerals in an aquifer. A second new well developed leaks in the well casing and had to be shut down.
Fixen said the town can get by on one well and it`s been fortunate not to have had a fire that would require more water. He said the city`s third well will be drilled this fall, and the reservoir will be built next spring. |
