Cooperstown Bow Hunt to Thin Deer
10/22/2009
The Griggs County community of Cooperstown is starting a bow hunting season to try to control a growing deer herd on its golf course.

It`s open to young people and adults as long as they have an archery deer license.

Golf course Superintendent Ryan Hardy estimates 100 deer are on the course golf course. He says they`re becoming a problem.

Hardy says 10 deer carcasses were removed from the course this spring after the animals died naturally.

The bow hunting season runs until early January, but hunters are barred from holes 1, 4 or others on the golf course that are within 300 feet of the residential neighborhoods.
