The Lignite Energy Council was talking about climate change legislation today at its annual meeting in Bismarck.
Three panel discussions brought the industry up to speed on what`s happening in Washington.
The coal industry provides thousands of high paying jobs in North Dakota and the council says those jobs could be at risk because they believe carbon cap and trade legislation unfairly targets North Dakota`s lignite industry and will raise energy costs for consumers.
"I think we sort of take it for granted because we`ve had this industry here for decades but really what`s going on in Washington will affect the state`s economy and the pocketbooks of consumers," says Steve Van Dyke, of Lignite Energy Council.
Our Congressional Delegation joined the meeting via satellite this afternoon.
