The Agriculture Department says North Dakota State University is getting a $4 million research award. It will be used to study legumes and their health benefits.



The state Commission on Education Improvement is meeting today in Bismarck. Lt. Gov. Jack Dalrymple says the 16-member group will keep track of school reform measures approved by the Legislature earlier this year.



The Grand Forks Air Force Base has a new project. It will help provide backup communications for U.S. military and government operations around the world. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for later today for new computer systems and high speed circuits.



The U.S. Senate has approved a resolution apologizing to American Indians for years of "ill-conceived policies" and acts of violence by U.S. citizens. Lawmakers said it`s a symbolic gesture meant to promote a renewed commitment to tribal communities.



Officials say schools in Fort Yates, south of Bismarck, have closed for the rest of the week because of the number of students absent due to the flu. Custer Health District administrator Keith Johnson says officials don`t recommend closing schools due to the flu, but that they expect "these kind of situations" as the flu season progresses.



Three attorneys have been picked as finalists for a new North Dakota district judgeship in Minot. A screening committee voted to recommend Minot lawyers William Bergman and Todd Cresap and Ward County prosecutor Kelly Dillon for the opening.



A man convicted of robbing a Fargo credit union at gunpoint will serve less than four years in prison. The sentence comes after defense attorneys argued Denver Lee Tergesen was suffering from a mental disorder as the result of military service in Iraq.
