Coach for Congress
8/26/2009
A former North Dakota State University linebacker and University of Mary football coach is seeking the North Dakota Republican endorsement to run for the U.S. House.
Paul Schaffner works as an insurance salesman in Bismarck.
The 39-year-old Schaffner is the first declared Republican candidate against Democratic incumbent Earl Pomeroy.
He`s never run for public office.
Schaffner says he disagrees with the policy direction of President Obama and the Democratic-controlled Congress on health care, energy regulation and other issues.
Schaffner is a native of Wisconsin. He was an NDSU linebacker from 1988 to 1991. Later, he was a defensive coach at Jamestown College, the University of Mary and Northeastern University in Boston.
