A Fargo woman accused of driving a pickup truck that crashed into Devils Lake and led to the death of a passenger has been sentenced to probation.
Malorie Jo O`Connell, 26, entered an Alford plea to a reduced misdemeanor charge of reckless driving in the death of Abraham Wilson, 25, of Fargo. The plea means she does not admit guilt but acknowledges there is sufficient evidence to convict her. She was given a deferred one-year sentence.
Authorities say O`Connell was driving to a rural Minnewaukan farm about 1 a.m. last Aug. 3 when she lost control of the pickup and it went into the lake. O`Connell swam to shore, but Wilson didn`t make it.
O`Connell initially had been charged with aggravated reckless driving and also leaving the scene of an accident involving death or personal injury, a felony.
Wilson`s sister-in-law, Christine Wilson, said the family is still waiting for an explanation of what happened the night of the crash. |
