A woman whose 2-year-old son was found outside without a coat when temperatures hit 15-below zero has pleaded guilty to child neglect.
Jackie Vondal`s attorney says she plans to get chemical dependency treatment in Belcourt during the 2½ months she was ordered to serve in custody. Vondal was arrested in December. Police said they found her passed out on her bed while her son was outside wearing only shorts, boots and a long-sleeve shirt and was unable to get back inside his family`s Grand Forks home. Officers said the boy was not injured.
Judge Sonja Clapp said she accepted the plea agreement somewhat reluctantly and said Vondal`s son could have been seriously harmed. If Vondal completes treatment before fulfilling her sentence, she would serve the balance in jail, on work release or on electronic home monitoring. She received credit for about a month already served. |
