Minot Base Commander Says Bomb Wing Back on Track
| 5/27/2009The bomb wing commander at the Minot Air Force Base says the wing "performed magnificently" in a surprise Air Force inspection just completed.
Col. Joel Westa was assigned the base after a mistaken cross-country flight of nuclear warheads to Barksdale Air Force Base in Louisiana in 2007. One of his missions was to restore the reputation of the Minot base and its 5th Bomb Wing.
Westa says the wing got a satisfactory rating in the 10-day surprise inspection, which is the highest ranking it could get. In 14 areas checked, from paperwork to maintenance to security, he said, "our guys just hit it out of the park."
