An outdoor concert isn`t typically as popular in the north as in the south. However, when the weather gets warmer, being outside is on the top of everyone`s minds.
Mike Thompson purchased land in Wibaux-Montana more than a decade ago with plans to use it to re-create the past.
"I`d have to go back to the 60`s and 70`s, I`m still a hippie at heart, long hair, and back then, like Woodstock and everything else, and that`s how people got together have fun, and now-a-days, there`s not too many places to do it, and now, it`s here in Eastern Montana," says Thompson.
The area known as the North 40 has over five acres of concert space, something that Thompson says is the largest in the Northern Plains for bands to jam.
"It`s big enough to handle a few hundred people to 10,000 people," he says.
Thompson calls it his hobby. Along with the 512 square foot covered stage that`s fully wired, there`s also a concession area and tattoo parlor. He says he`s dreamed of a place where people can come out, pitch a tent and enjoy music. He calls his company 3-D entertainment incorporated, Which stands for `Don`t Drive Drunk,` something Thompson is keen on.
You can check it out on June 13, when seven rock groups, including a Kiss Tribute band will perform all day. Thompson calls it the hottest ticket of the summer.
"Anybody that likes rock and roll better show up," he says.
But if you can`t make it to that, you can rent the venue.
"This is perfect for weddings, concerts, dances, anything," says Thompson.
The North 40 has been the host for Thunder on the Prairie, a Labor Day concert that attracts many to his site. If you`re interested in buying a ticket for the June 13th festivities, visit www.fieldofrock.com for tickets.
