Animals can`t talk, but some can communicate.
A unique Holstein in North Dakota has lots of people talking about the message this one-of-a-kind cow conveys.
The friendliest cow in North Dakota graciously greets everyone it sees.
"Yeah, he`s pretty friendly," says Alden Kempel, the cow`s owner.
You can walk right up to this Holstein steer and feed it out of your hand, but its mellow nature isn`t what made this animal famous. Several newspaper stories have been written about the warm welcome this cordial cow naturally conveys to everyone who sees it.
"We just call him `Hi,` I normally don`t name anything, but in his case we just call him `Hi,`" says Kempel.
It`s pretty hard to read this cow`s lips, but if you look closely, it`s easy to read its hide. In fact this steer`s hide saved its own hide.
"It saved him, the other one went in the freezer and this one`s still here," says Kempel.
When Alden Kempel bought a couple of steers at an auction sale last year, he intended to use them for hamburger, but one look at "Hi`s" side changed his mind.
"He`s more or less a 1,700 pound pet right now, I guess," Kempel says.
A pet people love to see pictures of.
We just had a new granddaughter born and I was carrying a picture of her and everybody wanted to see a picture of the steer.
Kemepl says this animal will eventually wear out its welcome, but for now this steer has become the poster cow for Holstein hospitality and he invites anyone who`s interested in seeing a moving billboard to stop by his farm and see "Hi."
Kempel says he tried to sell "Hi" on e-Bay but he found out you can`t list live animals there.
He`s still considering selling his unusual animal, so if you`re interested in buying a cordial cow, call him at 701-678-2632.
