There is no estimate yet on how much money has been spent on the flood fight in Ward County, but it could be in the millions of dollars. Despite the fact that the flood disaster has past, there is still work to do.
On April 21st city and county leaders gathered for a final press conference. About 27,000 sandbags are being sent to Jamestown to help with their flood fight. The city of Minot Street Department is removing pumping equipment and cleaning up dirt work. Ward County is examining their roads and making repairs. The county is currently under consideration for the Presidential flood emergency declaration.
"That is expected to be in place yet this week. We have got all the criteria in. The governor has sent his letter requesting we be included with some other jurisdictions. Yet this week we will have public assistance as well. We don`t have the details until we are under the declaration," says Bruce Christianson the Ward County Commission Chairman.
FEMA`s initial inspection is complete. All businesses and residents need to contact FEMA to report damages. They can call 1-800-621-3362 or visit www.disasterassistance.gov.
