Devils Lake to Buy Land for Flood Control
4/21/2009
The Devils Lake City Commission has signed a deal to acquire land in Nelson County in the Tolna Coulee area where the flooding lake would flow naturally into the Sheyenne River.

The commission voted 5-0 Monday night to spend $1,000 per acre to buy the 193 acres of land.

City Commissioner Rick Morse says it`s part of an effort to come up with a long term plan to address flood control - not only for Devils Lake but downstream as well.

Morse says city officials don`t expect the state to oppose the city`s efforts to develop a spillway that would control the flow of water out of the lake.
