Burlington Closes Road | Video
4/14/2009
The Des Lacs river running through Burlington is effecting roads and homes.

As of April 14th, the water rose significantly overnight and was flowing over project road, a more rural area of the town. Officials say the water has effected about four homes. There is also an old bridge that city officials have been keeping an eye on. Due to the flooding and excessive traffic, Project Road is closed.

"We just have the National Guard standing at all three entrances. Basically because we want road traffic down to a minimum to eliminate damage to roads. It gives homeowners a way to get in and out easier. IF we have an evacuation situation in an emergency we can get in here without going around people," says Kevin Archer the Burlington Rural Fire Chief.

Disaster preparation officials have noted that some residents who do not live in potential flood areas are using sandbags when there is no need. Sand bags are being produced and made available to those who live in potential flood areas to protect their homes. Residents who do not require sandbags are asked to refrain from taking them.
