Ignoring Road Closed Signs | Video
Retha Colclasure
4/13/2009
Ten days ago, we told you about a man who ignored road closed signs and ended up stuck in a bridge near Pick City.

Despite that warning, people have still been driving around the orange barricades, and they could end up in trouble.

Near Apple Creek, the rising water has led to a number of road closures that are being ignored.

Earlier today, the Burleigh County Sheriff`s Department said they`d given out more than two dozen tickets to people who have been driving around barricades attempting to cross roads.

Some said they didn`t know why the road was closed, others said they were trying to get to homes in the area.

Still more were just sightseeing.

Whatever the reason, the sheriff`s department says the road closed signs are there for a reason, to keep people safe.

"We`re looking for voluntary compliance," says Sgt. Gary Schaffer, of the Burleigh County Sheriff`s Department. "We don`t want to give these citations, but the situation dictates where it`s just too dangerous right now that if people are going to take the chance and avoid the barricades, they`re going to get cited."

The reason it`s so dangerous is that fast moving water running across the road is easily capable of pulling a car right off the road.
