Minot Dikes Not Yet Certified | Video
4/1/2009
The dikes in Minot have not yet been certified and received a pell letter from FEMA, which means flood insurance is that much more important.

While you can get $30,000 per home through FEMA for flood damage caused by a flood, the money is only available if the president declares an official disaster.

Public Works Director Alan Walter explained at a council that Minot is at least two years away from getting the necessary pell letter from FEMA certifying the dikes.

"I talked with the engineer that is looking at the dikes and looking at their profiles and looking at the flood profiles for FEMA. He`s probably 2 years away from getting that done," says Walter.

Most flood insurance takes 30 days to go into effect.
