North Dakota senators have agreed to prohibit smoking in vehicles if someone younger than 16 is inside.
The offense would carry a $50 fine, under the bill. It is being pushed by a group of Williston seventh graders.
The North Dakota Senate voted 35-10 Monday to approve the restriction. It now goes to the state House.
The smoking restriction would apply even if the vehicle`s windows are rolled down and even if the vehicle is parked on private property.
Supporters of the bill say children often don`t have a choice about whether to be in the vehicle. The law is intended to protect them from secondhand smoke.
The bill is SB2070. |
