Hospital President Says Medicare Reimbursement Must Increase
4/14/2008
The President and CEO of St. Alexius Medical Center says the quality of North Dakota`s healthcare with decrease over time if the reimbursement rates for Medicare don`t increase.

Andrew Wilson spoke at the North Dakota Society for Respiratory Care`s annual meeting today about the growing Medicare crisis that is increasing as baby boomers reach retirement age.

He says North Dakota`s Medicare reimbursement rates are significantly lower than other hospitals throughout the country

"And we have to compete around the country for staff, for physicians, and it costs just as much or move to move goods or services up to Bismarck to provide that," says Wilson. "So less reimbursement puts greater pressure on our medical center to continue to provide the high quality care we`ve been able to provide.

Wilson says he is looking for legislation that provides additional funding to hospitals before it runs out in October.
