North Dakota`s Board of Animal Health has ordered more stringent testing on Minnesota cattle before they`re brought into the state.
It`s in response to an outbreak of bovine tuberculosis in northwestern Minnesota. Since October 2007, four beef cattle herds in the region have tested positive for tuberculosis.
North Dakota state veterinarian Susan Keller says it`s important that the state`s tougher rules take effect right away.
The U.S. Agriculture Department is likely to impose tougher rules of its own. But they may not take effect for weeks or months.
Minnesota`s state veterinarian says the outbreak is in an isolated area.
