Elementary Students Fight Hunger

| While many sit down to dinner with full plates of food, there are millions who have nothing to eat. Students at Edison Elementary are hoping to fight hunger in the Minot area. On February 21st they hosted the Empty Bowls Fundraiser. Guests chose from about 400 bowls made by the students and were served a meal of soup and bread. The purpose of the event is to remind people that while their bowl is filled with warm soup, there are millions of people whose bowls are empty. "I want them to learn there is hunger around the world and that people are starving and this money will be donated to soup kitchens around Minot," says Jimmy Stillerman, a 5th Grade student at Edison. "Awareness of the needs of other people. We talk a lot about instilling the spirit of giving in students and children. I don`t know what we really need to do that so much. I think they have that need to help other people. We just have to facilitate it a little bit," says Rob Anderson, an art teacher at Edison Elementary. This year the money will be divided between all the soup kitchens in Minot. |
