JENNIFER JOAS
Anchor, Energy Reporter
Some are calling it a modern day gold rush. But this time it's not gold, it's crude oil that's drawing the masses. The Bakken sweet crude indeed drew me in while I served as the bureau reporter for KUMV-TV in Williston, ND. Filming, editing and producing on my own, I worked as a "one-man band" of sorts and had the opportunity to cover an oil well fire, large pipeline projects, a major power outage, tremendous flooding and the disappearance of a Sidney, MT teacher.
But most of all, I became fascinated by the oil activity and found western North Dakota to be an exciting place. That is why I jumped on the opportunity to become the Energy Reporter for KFYR-TV.
I am a transplant to North Dakota. I grew up in New Jersey, interned at KYW-TV in Philadelphia, WMGM-TV in Atlantic City and WNYE-TV in Brooklyn. I graduated Magna Cum Laude from Hofstra University in Long Island, New York.
Aside from work, I enjoy exploring the North Dakota outdoors.
