EMILY CATALANO
Web Producer / Reporter
While I always wanted to have a career in journalism, it wasn't until recently that I chose to work in television. Until about a year ago, I thought I would be a newspaper reporter. But after an internship on the news desk at a station in Philadelphia, I realized how powerful this medium is and my path took a completely different turn.
I grew up in Washington, Pennsylvania, a rural town south of Pittsburgh. After high school I attended Temple University in Philadelphia, where I interned at the Philadelphia Daily News. My editors threw me into the mix on my first day and let me report on politics, environmental issues, and, of course, a lot of crime. I loved it.
During my last year of school, I had an internship at KYW-TV, the CBS affiliate in Philadelphia. It's a huge station, and, coupled with being in a big city where news was constantly happening, it was an invaluable experience.
As the web producer at KFYR-TV, I plan on completely redoing the web site, and making it even more useful for our viewers. I'll also be getting back to my roots and reporting, as well as producing a lot of online-only content.
When I'm not working, I love to read, and because I'm not much of a cook, buying take-out has become a hobby of mine as well. And, of course, I love the Steelers, even though the Phillies claimed my heart in baseball.
I'm so excited to be in Bismarck and to get to know the people here. I love to hear from viewers, so drop me a line at ecatalano@kfyrtv.com. |
