CHARLES KOCH
Weekend Meteorologist
First and foremost, I am excited to be here in North Dakota and look forward to the many different forecasting challenges that the northern plains has in store. I look forward to putting my forecasting skills to the test and am thrilled at the opportunity to hone and refine my abilities as a meteorologist in such a dynamic weather area. I am currently a member of the American Meteorological Society, and will be actively working towards earning my Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal. Weather has been an interest of mine my entire life and I hope to bring that enthusiasm and passion to you in my weathercasts.
I am originally from the small town of Viola in southwest Wisconsin where I was born and raised. Growing up in the Kickapoo River Valley, I was exposed to many different weather phenomena ranging from blizzards to tornadoes and the annual spring floods, all of which sparked my interest in weather at a very young age. After graduating high school, I attended the University of Wisconsin where I graduated with a degree in Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences in December of 2007. I am extremely interested in severe weather, and was lucky enough to take a summer storm chasing class where we forecasted for, and chased severe thunderstorms across the plains!
While at UW, I was a member of the UW chapter of the American Meteorological Society (AMS) as well as a student member of the AMS. I also had the opportunity to take two remarkable internships, one at WFRV in Green Bay and WTMJ in Milwaukee, that sparked my interest in television and helped me become a better forecaster and weathercaster. I was also a member of the UW Marching Band and was given the opportunity to follow the Badgers to bowl games, NCAA tournaments and the 2006 National Championship in men’s hockey, as well as numerous Packers games at Lambeau Field!
While I am not consumed by the weather, I may be found following the Badgers, Packers and Brewers, as well as enjoying the great outdoors. I am an avid hiker, camper, skier and runner. I also enjoy golfing and playing the occasional game of basketball or baseball. If you see me out running around the streets of Bismarck, feel free to say hi or join in on a run!
