ANNE KELLY
Medical Reporter
I spent my college years in Chicago bearing the cold, and promising myself I would move out of a cold climate as soon as possible. Then I was offered a job in Bismarck. The night I drove into the city was also one of the coldest nights of January and I had a 'what have I gotten myself into' moment. But since moving here to become KFYR-TV’s medical reporter, I've learned how to effectively bundle up and also learned that North Dakotans are accepting of my wearing warm snow boots with dress pants.
Before working for KFYR-TV, I worked for Clear Channel Radio for half a year. Every morning, I wrote and recorded newscasts that were then uploaded to Blackberry phones. I graduated from Columbia College Chicago in May 2007 with a degree in broadcast journalism. During my time at Columbia I had the opportunity to intern in the news department at WGN-Radio and at the CBS-affiliate in Chicago. I also tried my hand at my college's TV news program and newspaper.
I've always wanted to be a reporter and always had an interest in news, but it's not everything in my life. When I'm not working I try to keep in touch with my family and friends back in Chicago and in my small hometown of Galena, Illinois. I love to listen to live music, play guitar when no one's listening, and spend time outdoors: snowboarding, camping, and lying in the grass. Besides becoming a part of the Bismarck community and improving in my reporting skills, my goal right now is to learn Spanish. I'd love to be fluent one day so that I can communicate with a variety of people as I carry out my other dream of living abroad in several different countries.
